The hearing was finally called to a close at 10:40. After a brief huddle, the supervisors—who looked exhausted and ready to go home—announced that Inflection needed to perform a traffic study before the BOS would consider voting on the application. The hearing would continue at next month’s scheduled BOS meeting. Inflection’s lawyer, geologist, and engineer looked surprised. They fully expected, it seemed, to walk out of there with an approval. After all, their permit applications in the neighboring township had been a cakewalk. The drilling rig, which probably cost over $10,000 each day to keep in the valley, was sitting idle on another well pad waiting to begin its work at the Ecks’.
